Press Release

The Mother Lode Highland Games, which has been enjoyed by all who attended, has been held annually at the Amador County Fairgrounds the second weekend of June. Carl McDanel, President & Games Manager stated ""After 3 years of producing the Highland Games we have learned quite a bit about what it would take to grow the games into a profitable and sustainable event. The biggest issue we have is how to attract support (sponsors, advertisers, volunteers, and attendees) from the greater Sacramento area. Relying on just the Mother Lode Scots membership and Amador businesses to support the games is just not enough to create the growth we need.

We are pursuing some ideas on how to reach out to the "lowlands" near by, but have found that the restructuring effort will require more time to achieve than we can allot and still have a successful 2019 Highland Games. For this reason the Board of Directors has decided to take a year off and work to build a bigger and better event for 2020. Watch for news on our next games to be held June 13-14, 2020."

The 2020 Highland Games committee will be planning a Friday night Ceilidh with live entertainment and other activities. In addition, the Saturday and Sunday Highland Games will continue to have the heavy athletic events, live entertainment, the various types of dancing, lots of pipe bands, the Queens Court along with the other reenactment groups, and an improved children's glen.

If you can volunteer to help us with our outreach efforts, or provide any other help with the games, contact Carl at info @ motherlodegames.com so we can discuss opportunities.
